Hood County Projected Versus Actual
TDCJ defines Projected Release Date as the date its Classification and Records Office calculates for a state inmate to leave incarceration if parole does not occur first. It is not the Parole Eligibility Date, Maximum Sentence Date, Scheduled Release Date, or actual physical exit. Each field describes a different stage.
A pretrial Hood County detainee has no sentence-based projected date. Bond, court action, and holds control that path. A county-jail sentence also should not be calculated with TDCJ’s public formula. Texas Good Time for Hood Releases
Texas Government Code Chapter 498 governs good-conduct time. Sections 498.003 and 498.004 concern accrual, forfeiture, and restoration. Section 498.005 supplies the key limit: good time applies to parole or mandatory-supervision eligibility and does not otherwise reduce the judicial sentence. Credits are not flat calendar days already served.
For mandatory-supervision-eligible offenses before September 1, 1996, a projection may reflect calendar time plus good time equaling the sentence if parole has not occurred. For eligible later offenses, discretionary review matters. A BPP denial can move the projection to maximum expiration, while a later RMS approval may recalculate it earlier. Ineligible offenses ordinarily project to maximum expiration unless parole occurs first.
Why Hood Release Projections Change
A projection reflects current legal and record facts. It can move when those inputs change.

After a favorable vote, TDCJ audits the release certificate and supplies Scheduled Release Date and Scheduled Release Location. The Ombudsman says the audit commonly takes about 14 to 21 business days, while some program processing may take about four to six weeks. These are process estimates, not promises.
Confirm Hood County Release Dates
For state custody, combine the latest TDCJ status with Parole Division supervision or discharge information. A projected date, eligibility date, favorable vote, or scheduled date alone is weaker than an actual released or discharged status. Texas Has No Blanket 85%
Texas does not impose one universal rule that every serious offender must serve 85 percent. For many aggravated or former-3g offenses, Government Code §508.145(d) generally uses actual calendar time equal to one-half of the sentence or 30 years, whichever is less, with at least two calendar years. The exact offense, offense date, and statutory exceptions control.
An old bill with 85 percent language is not the enacted blanket rule. Other offenses follow different formulas. The TDCJ record and governing statute must be matched to the individual sentence.

Offense title and offense date can change which formula applies. Sentence structure, credit, and mandatory-supervision eligibility also matter. Public fields are starting points, not a substitute for Classification and Records when a calculation is disputed.
Hood County Release Date Terms
Similar Texas labels are not synonyms. Projected Release Date is the current calculation if parole does not occur sooner. Parole Eligibility Date starts possible consideration. Maximum Sentence Date is the calculated endpoint. Scheduled Release Date follows favorable action and processing. Actual release or discharge is the completed event. A detainer can turn one agency exit into transfer.

TDCJ email service at pia.texas.gov can provide the TDCJ number, location, offenses, past incarceration data, conviction county and court, and Projected Release Date. Supply full name and seven-digit TDCJ number. If unavailable, give exact birth date or approximate age plus conviction county.
TDCJ says this service has no charge and does not provide photographs or Social Security numbers. It is useful when the portal does not resolve a state record. It does not calculate a Hood County Jail sentence.

A three-member panel decision, audit, approved plan, program completion, scheduled location, and physical exit are distinct milestones.
County court records add another layer. For a misdemeanor, Hood County Clerk records may show judgment, sentence, jail credit, and later orders. Felony records belong with District Clerk and the 355th District. The sentence entry may support the legal calculation but still may not show the exact jail door time.

Separate Hood and TDCJ Calculations
A Hood County jail sentence and a TDCJ prison sentence do not share one public formula. For the county sentence, obtain the filed judgment, sentence length, and jail-credit entries from the correct clerk. Then ask the jail for its maintained calculation. Pretrial time is controlled by bond, court orders, and holds rather than a projected sentence date.
For TDCJ, the Classification and Records Office calculates the Projected Release Date from the state sentence record and governing law. Good conduct time affects parole or mandatory-supervision eligibility and does not simply subtract days from the judicial sentence. Loss, forfeiture, or restoration of credit may alter eligibility inputs while the sentence itself remains in force.
A favorable parole vote begins another process. TDCJ audits the certificate, reviews the plan and required programs, and eventually supplies a Scheduled Release Date and Scheduled Release Location. The schedule may change. A detainer can also turn the TDCJ exit into transfer to another custodian rather than return to the community.
Confirm the final outcome after the expected date. An actual TDCJ released or discharged status, together with any Parole Division record, is stronger than a projected date alone.
