Find BOP Release Records

To find someone released from Federal Bureau of Prisons custody after a case connected with Hood County, use the national federal locator and the federal court record. The Hood County jail roster does not cover the federal prison system. A BOP result may show a past release date, a future projected date, or that the person is not in BOP custody. Each phrase has limits. Federal supervised release, transfer to another authority, and pretrial detention require separate confirmation.

Where BOP Releases Go

A completed BOP prison term can end with release to the community, but federal custody may also end through transfer. Another state, county, immigration, or federal authority may receive the person. Many federal judgments add supervised release after imprisonment. Supervised release is a court-ordered period monitored by the United States Probation Office. It is not the same as remaining in prison, yet it means federal sentence obligations continue.

The BOP locator reports the Bureau’s own custody status. A result marked “Released” or “Not in BOP Custody,” paired with a past release date, supports the end of the BOP phase. It does not prove that no other warrant, detainer, prosecution, or supervision applies. The federal docket supplies the judgment and later orders. When a person first left the Hood County Jail for the U.S. Marshals Service, that county departure may have been transport, not community release.

Confirm a BOP Release

Open the official BOP Inmate Locator. Its online coverage begins in 1982 and the Bureau says the extract updates daily. Search by a unique federal number when possible. Available number types include the BOP register number, DCDC number, FBI number, and INS number. A name search accepts first, middle, and last name with optional race, age, and sex.

  1. Search the federal identifier first. If using a name, compare every displayed identity field.
  2. Read the location and release-date columns together. A future date is a projection, not proof that release occurred.
  3. Treat “IN TRANSIT” as continued movement within custody. Do not call it release.
  4. Open the federal court docket for the judgment, detention orders, sentence, and supervised-release term.
  5. If another authority may have received the person, check that authority before concluding the person entered the community.

A BOP past release date confirms the end reflected in BOP data, not freedom from every possible custodian or federal supervision.

Reading BOP Release Results

A BOP result commonly displays the person’s name, register number, age, race, sex, release date, and location. The register number is the strongest way to distinguish people with similar names. A facility name generally means the person remains assigned within the federal correctional system. “Released” with a past date records a completed BOP custody event. “Not in BOP Custody” can also appear, but the court record and any receiving custodian are needed to explain what followed.

An “UNKNOWN” release date may appear for a pretrial detainee, unsentenced person, witness, civil-contempt detainee, or another case whose end date is not set. BOP data includes some people who never served a federal prison sentence. A future release date can change because of sentence computation, court action, credits, or another legal event. Therefore, do not convert a displayed date into a guarantee. Check again after the date and compare the docket.

Federal Docket Release Evidence

The federal court docket complements the locator. PACER and the responsible clerk’s office can provide a judgment, commitment order, detention or release order, amended judgment, and later supervision filings. The judgment identifies the prison term and any supervised-release term. A release order can establish legal authority, while the BOP result shows how the Bureau records its custody endpoint. Neither source alone answers every transfer question.

Federal supervised release differs from Texas parole. It is imposed by the sentencing court and administered through federal probation after imprisonment. Conditions, modification, revocation, and termination appear through the federal case rather than the Hood County CSCD or TDCJ parole path. A person can be out of BOP custody and still be under federal supervision. Conversely, a BOP result does not establish a Hood County probation obligation or resolve a separate Texas case.

USMS Movement Is Not Release

The United States Marshals Service manages federal detainee custody, court production, and movement. It does not offer a BOP-style nationwide released-person search. A marshal detainee may stay in a contract jail while awaiting court, travel for a hearing, move to another contract bed, enter BOP after designation, transfer to a state authority, or leave under a court order. Removal from the Hood County Jail by USMS is therefore not self-explanatory.

Use the federal docket to identify detention or release orders. Check BOP after designation. If a named local contract jail physically holds the person, verify the point-in-time status with that jail. A county booking sheet may show the destination or releasing authority, but it cannot replace the federal judgment. The Hood County release search explains how to request the local departure record when the federal path began with a Hood booking.

BOP Records and Contacts

The Federal Bureau of Prisons operates institutions nationwide. Research found no federal correctional institution inside Hood County. The person’s current BOP result, not a made-up local address, identifies the assigned facility. Verify the institution before sending mail or planning contact because federal movements can change the location.

For a record beyond the locator, use the Bureau’s Freedom of Information Act process. A focused request should include the full name, register number, date of birth, the exact record sought, and a clear date range. Identity or authorization material may be required for protected information. For federal imprisonment before 1982, BOP directs researchers to the National Archives.

BOP Records Versus Hood Records

A Hood County Sheriff record and a BOP record document different custody stages. The Sheriff can show a Hood booking, departure time, and a destination such as a federal authority when maintained. BOP can show the later federal location or release. The federal court supplies the legal basis. A strong timeline links all three with identifiers and dates instead of assuming one agency has the whole history.

Texas IVSS is designed around participating county custody and court events. It is not the BOP federal locator. Likewise, the TDCJ offender search covers Texas state custody, not a federal sentence. A person may appear in more than one system over time, but the current custodian controls the current status. Search each relevant system in sequence and note what each result actually proves.

Transfers After BOP Custody

An immigration detainer may lead from BOP custody to ICE. A state warrant can lead to a state or county jail. Another federal matter can place the person with USMS. In each case, the BOP result may properly say released because BOP custody ended, while physical confinement continues elsewhere. Look for a receiving authority in the docket, release paperwork, or later locator result.

Absence from a locator has limited meaning. Spelling differences, data lag, an older record, pre-1982 custody, or custody under another agency can explain it. Save the register number and compare the date of birth. For an ICE possibility, use the immigration locator with the required A-number and birth-country information or exact biographical search. For Texas custody, use the relevant county or TDCJ channel.

About the Federal Prison System

BOP is the federal correctional system, with facilities and programs across the United States. Its population can include sentenced federal prisoners and some people held under other federal legal bases. It is not a Hood County detention facility, and its nationwide locator should not be described as a county release list. No local BOP street address is supported by the Hood County research.

The correct location is person-specific. Facility security level, transfer status, prerelease placement, and court movement can affect where a record points. Residential reentry placement or home confinement also should not be reduced to an unsupported claim of unconditional release. The actual BOP status, federal judgment, and any supervision record supply the soundest account. Keep a dated copy of the result when documenting the end of BOP custody, since current online fields can change.
